Open Source Crusader Engine?
Jason Ely, sound system programmer for the Crusader games, has pondered in the Crusader Facebook fan group the possibility of an open source Crusader engine.

He says,

Quote:...an engine/tools that utilizes the No Regret/No Remorse art/sound assets that lets you create your own levels/gameplay? I've thought about this for a number of years. ... Picture this... You can use the existing crusader assets, import your own additional art/sound/music and create levels, write simple script for full missions and mission packs. And allow them to be downloaded and played by others.

Well, that's something I'm all for! One can assume Jason still retains access to all the assets of the games and is willing and capable to provide such a product. Let's hope it happens!
"First let me say welcome to the Resistance, Captain."

It's nice to know you can actually communicate with Ely via Facebook. It also does shed some light on licensing questions that I could never get real answers to.

This and a few other things that have come up over the last month or so has really made me stand back and re-evaluate the CNV project. Keenan, you don't by chance know of anyone else who would be interested in doing freelance programming on our project?. Depending on the feedback, I would be willing to pay for their services.

Thanks for posting the link Keenan. Joined the group, just out of interest Smile Won't be able to contribute to anything though.
I guess what they say is true. Send a Silencer in and the job gets done.

Open source Crusader engine? Yes, please!  :mask:

This could potentially be something great - a means to create custom missions and mission packs. Hell, the whole NO VINDICATION project could be based on this!

Would be sweet. Maybe could make it open for creating entirely new games with it too.

Re: Open Source Crusader Engine?
Let's see if I understood this correctly.

We would be supposed to import the old games and their assets to a newer engine, so we would be able to play them on modern systems/OS and getting rid for once of the older versions fatal bugs?

Boy, that would be great! Especially to fix Crusader: No Remorse ESP at last.

I don't have a FB account so if someone who does have some updates on this... Hell, I would be happy with the original DOS devtools/editor.
